Oscar Predictions 2019
With the Oscars coming up on Sunday, I figured I would make my predictions and see if I come anywhere close to making the right prediction. With all the mess leading up to Sunday, I am interested to see how the show goes. Here is my list of predictions for the big categories at the Oscars.
Best Picture: I am going out on a limb and saying Roma will win Best Picture. The movie was stunning to look at and had a substantial story that might get some love for the Academy. I could also see A Star is Born getting Best Picture too so it will be interesting to see which movie comes away with the biggest award of the night.
Actor in a Leading Role: The only actor I have seen from the nominees is Bradley Cooper from A Star is Born and I think his performance is excellent and had many layers to his character. Lady Gaga's performance elevated his own to a different level but with all that, I don't think he'll win. I think Rami Malek will win the Oscar for his performance in Bohemian Rhapsody. From what I have seen from years past, whoever wins the BAFTA and SAG Award for a particular category has a better chance of winning the Oscar so I think Rami Malek will win for this reason.
Actress in a Leading Role: I would love for Yalitza Aparicio from Roma, or Lady Gaga from A Star is Born to win this Oscar because I believe they both gave excellent performances for their respective movies. From what I said about winning other awards, Glenn Close has won every award for this category and I will be shocked if she doesn't win, so Close will most likely win the Oscar for her performance in The Wife, which I have heard is a great performance.
Actor in a Supporting Role: Mahershala Ali seems to have this one in the bag for his performance in Green Book because of his previous wins. Ali is a talented actor and I would like to see him win.
Actress in a Supporting Role: I would like for Marina de Tavira to win for her performance in Roma but I have a feeling it will be Regina King who wins the Oscar for If Beale Street Could Talk.
Adapted Screenplay: I think A Star is Born will win this category because of how fresh this film feels with it being the fourth time being put out for people to see. The live singing and ambiance in this film make you feel as if you are there.
Original Screenplay: I want Roma to win all the awards and I think it should win this award because when I watched this film, it was different from anything I had ever seen before.
Cinematography: Alfonso Cuaron deserves to win the Oscar for this category because this was a visually stunning movie. The fact that he did his own cinematography for Roma has made me respect him more as a filmmaker.
Director: Along with winning best cinematography, Cuaron will win for Best Director for Roma because he is a brilliant filmmaker and that is the straight up truth.
Aside from the big categories, here is a list of what/who I think will win the remaining categories, which is almost always a shot in the dark.
